About Adam

Adam Paffenroth started Cornerstone because he kept seeing the same problem: people making important financial decisions without a coordinated plan to support them. Not because they weren't smart or successful — but because the financial industry tends to deliver advice in pieces. An investment here, an insurance product there, a tax strategy that doesn't connect to either.

Cornerstone exists to do the opposite.

How Adam works

Adam's approach starts with listening. Before any recommendations, before any strategy, he wants to understand what you're actually building — what financial security looks like for your family, what you're worried about, and what you want your money to make possible.

From there, the work is integration. As a CFP® and ChFC®, Adam coordinates investments, tax strategy, retirement income planning, and estate considerations into a single coherent plan — one that makes sense to you and evolves as your life does. Nothing operates in a silo.

He works with a small number of clients by design. That's what allows for the kind of attention and follow-through that meaningful planning actually requires.

A little background

A little background

Before financial planning, Adam spent time in military intelligence — an environment that rewards clear thinking, careful analysis, and staying grounded when things are uncertain. He carries that same discipline into his work with clients today.

He holds the Certified Financial Planner (CFP®) and Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC®) designations, representing advanced training in comprehensive, fiduciary-based planning.

Steady perspective in a noisy world

Markets move. Headlines shift. Most of the day's noise turns out, in retrospect, to have mattered very little. Adam's role is to help clients keep their attention on what does — disciplined thinking, thoughtful diversification, and a long horizon — grounded in the belief that financial decisions should support a well-lived life, not just a larger portfolio.

He works best with clients who value clarity over complexity, substance over flash, and a steady hand when it matters most.

Outside the office

Outside the office

Adam lives in the Alexandria, Virginia area and is a father. He values time outdoors, time with family, and the kind of slow thinking that good decisions require. He maintains a personal mindfulness practice that shapes how he approaches both his work and his clients — with patience, presence, and a long view.
